A Mobile Device Based Application for Testing Benchmark Functions

Optimization can be defined as finding the best solution for a problem. This process can be achieved by setting the initial parameters based on available information. Various optimization algorithms have been proposed for solving such problems. One cannot expect all optimization algorithms available to produce suitable and effective solutions for all optimization problems. Therefore, it is necessary to choose appropriate optimization algorithm similar to the problem and to determine the best parameter to values for the algorithm chosen. In this study, an application that can work on mobile devices with android and IOS operating systems was developed for two different optimization algorithms. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithms were used as optimization algorithms. Ackley and Rosenbrock functions were chosen as benchmark functions. The application developed was tested for PSO and SA algorithms on mobile devices. The results obtained indicated that this application can be easily used as test tool with mobile devices in spite of small differences in their working times.
